so this is floating around on facebook and i have an issue with this because of my background with family studies.
yes, we do drug test people at some places of employment. yes, drugs may be an issue that is more prominent in lower SES individuals. but denying them welfare assistance is not going to help them with substance abuse and dependence. in fact, it’s probably going to make it worse?
maybe we’re focusing on the wrong problem here.
As a society focusing on the wrong approach is kind of our thing though
When they implemented this in Florida, only 2% of those tested had tested positive. And given the costs of the tests, it actually cost taxpayers more than it saved them.
